TIMBERS FC. Onward.
Go Ducks!! Oregon vs. UCLA 2013 (at Autzen Stadium)
The noise of modern sports television is fucking frightening. Be wary you fans who are unable to see the game in person, for you will be subjected to a sewage flood of misinformation, bias, and obfuscation throughout the broadcast of the big game. Nowadays, the cost of admission of watching at home includes suffering through the commentary.
I’ve worked on alternatives. Watching with the sound off just feels weird and lonely. I’ve tried turning on music during the game but then I feel like I’m trying to create some sort of performance art in my living room and that’s even worse than watching in silence. So, my usual tactic is to turn the sound on just loud enough to hear the broadcast a little bit but not loud enough to actually hear what the announcers are saying. If I hear Ian Darke or Twellman say “he’s full of belief!” or “he loves to tuck inside!” then I know it’s time to turn down the sound a click or two for the sake of my own health and safety.
I was stoked for the Timbers-Sounders game last week. I’ve followed the Timbers all season and bought the MLS streaming package specifically to be able to watch the Timbers games. The Sounders game was arguably the biggest game of the Timbers’ and MLS regular season and was rightfully broadcast on primetime ESPN. So, with my excitement at a level I’ve never experienced for an MLS game I decided to go full blast and watch with the sound fully audible.
